Finding Comfort in my Favorite Games
Hey all! This is a bit of a passion project of mine and a bit of an experiment, too. I've started working with blender a lot lately in order to incorporate it into videos and thought this would be a good test run.
I know this is a lot different from the usual stuff, but I appreciate anyone willing to give it a go. I hope you all enjoy.

A lot of people always ask about my keybinds for ULTRAKILL and I figured I'd do a short video about them and why people should give custom binds a shot! Hope you all enjoy.

Sorry for no mic, I thought it was recording but I hadn't enabled it in OBS 😔😔😔 If you ever wanted to know how bad I am on a first time run, here you go! I probably should have posted this sooner but I didn't really think about it until after I uploaded the All P-ranks video.

I figured I'd upload a CG run since I never seem to do those and people have asked before. I'm no queckquack, but I was at this all day lmao. Forgot how fun CG can be.

this one took me a while to get in one go, had a close call earlier today but I missed a parry on the final boss and freaked out. Almost happened again at the very end. I love doing the Marked for Death thing too, obviously makes things harder but I absolutely loved it. Great fuckin update.

CULTIC Fan Trailer | Chapter One & Interlude

This was a fun project to test out a few things on the editing side, especially working on the pacing of trailers like this. I think the text bits turned out pretty well, though I'd like to learn how to make some better transitions. Big thanks to Jason for providing some resources for this, like the font and logo. The music is from the game and its soundtrack, also by Jason.

At long last, another guide is finally here. The longest video I've ever made so far too! I couldn't have gotten this done without the help of others in the community to give me some great feedback and corrections. I hope I've done the information justice and that you all enjoy it and learn something new! Lord_Chicken's run: www.speedrun.com/ultrakill/runs/y2gog59z Timestamps 0:00 - Intro 1:00 ...

How it feals to finally get that mindflayer 1shot

NOO NOT THE JAR!!1!1!!
one of my favorite spaces is the jellyfish ice shards on giant's deep in outer wilds, just a nice fire from feldspar and the storms around you, its calm. highly recommend
AWESOME video dude. Really enjoy the topic as well, can relate to the feeling of enjoying rain and capturing a similar comfort within video games. Never thought about it until I started watching this. Genuinely thought provoking stuff. Also congrats on the 3D aspect of this! Like that's insane, really feeling the passion in this video! Kudos and can't wait for whatever's next :)
Thank you bullet! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
a small little cozy spot i love is in Gloomwood, the very last phonograph in the fishery, right before you get to the mines. its a very small, cozy cabin that i just get lost in. sometimes i can just lock the door behind me, crouch by the fire, and let the horrors of the city of Gloomwood not bother me. i can relax, but the feeling of progress makes me need to continue on.
I love this style, please make moooore!
Thank you Hyze!
3:49 the crawling sounds make me wanna shit myself
good vid! loved how this was presented. excited for more like this if you decide to do so
You made me unlock a part of me that I didn't know how to describe at the time until now. awesome video bro.
Jesuschrist
Cozy spots for me in games are the menu screen in Half Life 2 for the Water Hazard chapter, the menu screen for Hollow Knight when I set the theme to Lifeblood, and the balcony in the third chapter of Celeste. The menu screens are water themed, and the view from the balcony is pretty.
is epic
I beat Minos so easily but the flesh prison…. Like wtf
I was so excited to see content from ya again! And you beginning with zomboid made me super surprised to! Zombie games can be really atmospheric
wow. thanks a lot, carolina mach from regretevator
I'm glad you mentioned Crow Country. A lot of the time i would just walk, not run through the environments, taking in the atmosphere. A lot of the lived-in rooms devoid of filth and death in Signalis are also very comfortable, especially the EULE dorms with the bunk beds, the mirror and the fairy lights.
I love this style of 3D animation. It reminds me of the early Kingsfield npc's, wich, to me, is a compliment.
That first under the map was js a flex
Minos when i ask for that one yakuza song
This was a very nice video, Ultrakill Coin Man. This reminds me of the Librarian, a youtuber who always makes videos trying to capture this same "creepy and comfy" vibe.
Thank you! I'll have to check them out, sounds right up my alley.
Love this type of videos, glad to see you making these type of content!
I really like your non-ultra kill videos they're a breath of fresh air <3
More of an open location but bloodhoof village from world of warcraft holds a special place in my heart.
why he urple
Thanks
it's things like this that really make me wish i had a better memory, but some examples of places in games that have given me this feeling personally are the living room area in animal well, countless areas in the mario galaxy series, the small warehouse thing on gm_boreas in gmod, the main room of dishwashing simulator, a few of the bases I've had in various sandbox survival games, and I'm sure many more places that my brain refuses to dig up right now. some of these evoke the feeling stronger than others, but i do get that same kind of comfort feeling from all of these. it really is nice to have a place to sit and not only relax, but truly chill out and let your mind rest. i think that's why the mario galaxy areas stand out to me more, as when i first played those games video games were only fun for me, as i was just a kid and had no lingering worries in the back of my mind as i do now, it let me feel more at peace and have a greater connection to those areas
Underrated as hell. Keep it up
Bro has the old CRT that the teacher would roll into class on movie day
Sick video dude, I can tell that this video is a passion project for you, and I really hope you continue to enjoy making videos and making my day
Cool. I had a similar idea for a game im developing. Like a point or a place with a nice view that you can stay for a while and just chill with calm music . Very different from the main gameplay but a nice breath of air. The Chill zone. Thanks to you i'm gonna look more into this stuff ❤
Best of luck with development!!
Long time, no see, Herby! Glad to see you still making content. Missed your e-face.
Hey Malice! Good to see you too fam.
I found your videos through Ultrakill, but this I think this style of video suits you really well too. If anything, I think this video proves that you can do different styles very well, and I enjoy them both. Keep it up! To answer your question, I really enjoy the benches (savepoints) in Hollow Knight. Together with the exploration aspect of the game, it really feels like you are out on an expedition, finding places where you are momentarily safe, and resting before continuing on. The music especially helps this feeling a lot. My favorite one has to be the one in an abandoned tram, where the bench is just one of the seats of the tram itself. You find this place quite far away from any other savepoints, and the fact that the place you sit on is not a predetermined asset (the bench) but a diegetic element, coupled with the fact that the music plays from a speaker of the tram, distorted but not in a creepy way, really gives you this feeling of finding a safe place by yourself and resting for a while.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend playing the Early Access game published by New Blood called Gloomwood. It takes heavy inspiration from the great immersive sims of the past like Thief and Resident Evil. When you've cleared an area of enemies, it can evoke very similar feelings to the ones described in this video. The game allows you to set up "bases" pretty much anywhere. Definitely the most quintessential of these is the Emerald Eye shop. The Emerald Eye is special in that it is one of the few places in the game where you are not completely isolated; the merchant, Grezzo, is posted behind his counter downstairs ready to sell his stock and buy any items you might have collected throughout your journey. The guest room upstairs allows you to store pretty much anything. You can organize all your weapons, ammo, healing items, and trinkets pretty much however you want. No two players are likely to have the same item hoard. Sometimes I will boot up the games just to mess around in my completed save file, admiring my item collection and sometimes even rearranging it, especially whenever a new content update comes out with new items as well as more instances of old ones like revolvers and gems. There are even spots outside the guest room you can store items in: You can store things in the attic, the floor cabinet next to the stairs, and even the empty gun case on the main floor. Very few games give you such freedom to manipulate your inventory and items to the degree of Gloomwood. Hell, you can take your canesword out of your inventory and throw it around. The main character's one-of-a-kind, irreplaceable primary tool. You can even sell it to the merchant for 500 coins, making it the most valuable sellable item in the entire game!
Its nice to see someone talking so heartfelt about their own experiences. great video!
Okay real comment time: Brother I love love LOVE this content from you. Everything about this video is excellent. The writing. The animations. The transitions. I can tell you really put a lot of time, effort, and passion into this project. Frankly, this is your best work yet and I'm proud to have seen you come this far with your UA-cam channel. Keep up the good work, dude. ❤️
Thank you so much brother, love you ❤️❤️
Great video! Keep it up!
Finded comfort in that one
cozy tight places yes yes :3 i recently moved the furniture in my room. and i put the big wardrobe so it divides the room in half making the room feel a lot smaller it very cozy
You should do more of these! Its a nice and welcome change in pace from ultrakill
Very viby to watch, would love to see more videos about this topic.
Fantastic video. It made me reflect on a lot of things. Feelings of anxiety and comfort: they go hand in hand, don't they? When I was little and was forced to sit in hallways or small rooms, I imagined myself living in this space, where I would sleep and where I would put all my things. I also used to be incredibly anxious when playing any video game. As that fear gradually subsided as I got older, I forgot about the feeling of comfort that some spaces provided. I feel like that's what's missing from most of the games I play these days. One such place that I still remember is the home base from Patapon 2 and 3. Your base in the second game is a village under the stars, in the center there is a huge party going on late at night, people dancing and feasting. If you scroll further, the music becomes muffled and the sounds of nature at night can be heard. In the third game, your base is located in a huge cave, in the light of the torches you can see the rock paintings that were made by your ancestors. The sound of a hammer hitting an anvil echoes in the cave. If you go outside, you will see the starry sky once again. I'll try to rediscover the places in video games that have brought me comfort. Thank you for making a video on this topic! I would love to hear you talk more about things that interest you or are dear to your heart.
YO! Non-Ultrakill video!
Games like PZ, The Don't Escape Trilogy, and other games like them(Half-Life, or Outer-Wilds) have (in my opinion) the perfect atmosphere
for me, sonic mania’s sound test/debug menu evokes a similar feeling of comfort, especially with the music literally being titled “comfort zone” the menu is lowkey kinda eerie but sitting there trying to input the super sonic flight code just makes me feel at peace
THE 3D-MODELING-TO-VIDEO-ESSAYIST PIPELINE IS REAL, WE GOT 'IM BOYS!!!!!
I would love more of this, rly good video!
I love the beginning of E1M3 in DUSK. The sound of Crows and the dusk setting, the falling leaves from the tree next to the church is just so nice.
Oh yeah that's such a good level and a vibe.
i was thinking about that too lmao
gotta appreciate herb branching out the content
Love the visual style! Good luck , Herb!!
